Privacy Policy
Second Voice · Effective date: 1 November 2026
Second Voice is a rehearsal partner for actors. You add a script, choose the part you're playing, and the app reads the other parts aloud and listens for your lines. This policy explains what information is involved, where it goes, how long it's kept and what you can ask us to do.
Second Voice is provided by Stevie Odu Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales under number 15930275, with its registered office at 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. We are the controller of your information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

1. The short version
- No account. You don't sign up, and we don't ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your scripts are sent to our server to be read. The processed text is stored there so the app can rehearse them, until you delete the script.
- Your voice is never recorded or stored by us. Your iPhone's speech recognition, provided by Apple, turns what you say into text. Second Voice only uses the words.
- Your detailed rehearsal reports stay on your phone.
- Deleting a script in the app deletes it from our server too.
- We keep simple usage records (for example, "a script was uploaded" or "20 lines were voiced"), linked to a random identifier for your installation of the app, never to your name. They never contain your script or your voice.
- We don't sell your information, show adverts, or use third-party advertising or analytics tools.
2. What information is involved
2.1 Scripts you add
When you add a PDF (a screenplay, a play or audition sides):
- The PDF is sent to our server. The server reads its text, works out the characters, dialogue and stage directions, and then deletes the PDF.
- The processed script (its text, character names and lines) is stored on our server with a random identifier, so the app can prepare rehearsals. It isn't linked to your name, email address or any account.
- The text is sent to OpenAI to help read the script accurately (see section 4). If the PDF is a scan with no readable text and you choose to have it read anyway, images of its pages are sent to OpenAI to read the text.
- Longer scripts: Second Voice currently reads up to 15 pages of a script at a time. If your PDF is longer:
- To help you choose, our server reads its page numbers, scene headings and character names, without AI. Nothing from that step is kept.
- Only the pages you choose are read and sent to OpenAI. The rest of the PDF is never sent to it, and the whole file is deleted once it's been read.
- We keep which pages a script was read from (for example "pages 35–49 of 90") with the script.
Scripts can contain other people's work and personal details, such as cast names. Please only add scripts you're allowed to use with these services.
2.2 Partner voices
- To read the other parts aloud, the text of those lines (and any stage directions you choose to hear) is sent to OpenAI or ElevenLabs, depending on the voice.
- The audio is saved on your phone, so each line is fetched only once. Our server also keeps a short-lived copy in its memory, which is gone when the server restarts.
2.3 Your voice and the microphone
- Permissions: Second Voice asks for Microphone and Speech Recognition permission so it can hear your lines.
- Apple's speech recognition turns your speech into text while the app is listening. Apple may process the audio on its servers, under Apple's privacy policy (apple.com/legal/privacy).
- We never receive your audio. Second Voice doesn't record, save or send your audio to us or anyone else. It only receives the recognised words, compares them with your script and keeps them in your rehearsal report on your phone.
- When the microphone is on: only while the app is listening for your line. It closes when you pause, skip, leave the app or take a call.
2.4 Rehearsal reports and progress
- On your phone: each session's report holds your lines, what was recognised, word-by-word accuracy, attempts, skips and corrections. Your progress is kept there too. None of this is sent to us.
- On our server: when you finish a run, a summary is sent: the script's identifier, the character(s) you played, an overall score and counts of perfect, close and missed lines. It contains none of your words or audio. It powers the run history in the app.
2.5 Other features
- Character Coach (if you use it): your character's lines, nearby lines and any notes you type are sent to OpenAI to suggest acting notes. The notes aren't stored on our server.
- Shooting schedules (if you add one): the schedule's text is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to find your call times. The PDF is deleted after reading. Calendar events are created on your phone only when you ask.
2.6 Your installation identifier
When the app first opens, it gets a random installation identifier from our server.
- It identifies a copy of the app on one phone, not a person. It isn't linked to your name, Apple ID, or your phone's advertising or hardware identifiers. Deleting the app discards it, and reinstalling creates a new one.
- We use it to:
- apply fair-use limits and keep the service secure;
- count places in a testing session;
- group feedback sent from the same installation;
- link the usage records below.
2.7 Usage records
Our server keeps a short record of what happens, with your installation identifier. For example:
- the app was opened
- a script was uploaded, or refused and why (with its file size and how long it took)
- how many characters were chosen
- partner lines were voiced (how many characters of text, and which provider)
- a rehearsal was completed (how many lines, and the score)
- a script was deleted
- feedback was sent
- beta access was checked
Each record also holds our estimated cost of any AI processing it involved.
They never include script text, dialogue, titles, character names or audio. We use them to:
- run and improve the service;
- understand how it's used (for example, how many installations are active);
- spot problems;
- plan fair-use limits;
- manage our costs.
They're seen only by Stevie Odu Ltd, in a private, password- and code-protected management dashboard. That dashboard shows counts, feedback and costs. It doesn't display script content.
2.8 Beta testing
- Beta access codes: a code you enter is checked with our server. For personal codes, we keep a list of each code with the first name of the tester it was given to.
- Testing sessions: if your app joins a testing session, our server records that your installation has taken one of the session's places, so the same phone isn't counted twice. Session access ends on the session's end date.
- Feedback: if you send feedback from the app, we receive:
- your ratings and comments;
- your name, only if you choose to add one (we don't verify it);
- a little context: the app version, your plan, and how many scripts and rehearsals you have.
It's stored with a short one-way code made from your installation identifier, so feedback from one installation can be grouped and seen next to its usage records. It never includes script text or audio. Please don't type anything confidential in your comments.
2.9 Subscriptions
Paid subscriptions aren't available yet. When they are, Apple will handle payment and RevenueCat will tell the app which plan you have. We'll never see your payment details. RevenueCat will receive an anonymous app user identifier and your purchase information from Apple. We'll update this policy before subscriptions start.
2.10 Security and operational logs
- Network address: like any internet service, our hosting provider sees the IP address your requests come from. We use it only for fair-use limits and security. It's held in memory, not stored with your scripts or usage records.
- Server logs record events such as an upload's size and timing, and errors. They don't include script text or anything you said.
3. Why we use it (lawful bases)
| What | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Reading your scripts, voicing the other parts, recognising your lines, Coach, schedules, run summaries, deleting scripts | Contract: providing the app you've chosen to use |
| Installation identifier, fair-use limits, security and error logs | Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure, reliable and fair |
| Usage records and cost estimates | Legitimate interests: running, improving and paying for the service. They contain no script content, and you can object (section 7) |
| Testing-session places and beta codes | Legitimate interests: running the beta fairly |
| Feedback, including a name if you add one | Consent: it's optional, and you can ask us to delete it |
Microphone and speech recognition access is also controlled by you, in iPhone Settings › Second Voice.
4. Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that make Second Voice work. Each processes it on our behalf under data processing terms with us.
| Provider | What they receive | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | script text (and page images of scans you choose to have read), partner lines to voice, Coach requests | reading scripts, partner voices, acting notes | United States |
| ElevenLabs | partner lines to voice, if you choose an ElevenLabs voice | partner voices | United States |
| Anthropic | the text of shooting schedules you add | finding call times | United States |
| Apple | your speech while the app is listening (Apple's speech recognition) | recognising your lines | Apple's services |
| Supabase | processed scripts, run summaries, usage records, session places, feedback | database storage | Ireland (EU) |
| Railway | everything sent to our server, while it's processed; server logs | hosting | United States (Virginia) |
| RevenueCat (once subscriptions start) | an anonymous app user identifier and purchase information | knowing your plan | United States |
How the AI providers handle it:
- OpenAI: information sent through its API isn't used to train its models. It's kept for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deleted, unless the law requires longer.
- Anthropic: isn't used to train its models, and is deleted within 30 days, unless it's flagged for a breach of Anthropic's usage policy or the law requires longer.
- ElevenLabs: we've opted out of ElevenLabs using what we send to train its models. The lines it voices, and their audio, are kept in our ElevenLabs account's history until we delete them, then for up to 30 days in its backups.
Deleting a script in Second Voice doesn't reach these providers' temporary copies; those expire under the terms above.
We don't sell your information or share it with advertisers.
5. International transfers
Our database is in Ireland (EU), which UK law recognises as giving adequate protection. Some providers are in the United States, or support their service from outside the UK. Where information leaves the UK, we rely on one of two safeguards:
- the UK–US data bridge, for providers certified under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (ElevenLabs is);
- the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, in our data processing terms with each provider (OpenAI's and Supabase's terms include it).
You can ask us for more detail about these safeguards.
6. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Uploaded PDFs | Deleted as soon as they have been read |
| Processed scripts on our server | Until you delete the script in the app (or ask us to delete it) |
| Run summaries | Deleted with the script |
| Partner voice audio on our server | In memory only; gone when the server restarts |
| Usage records | 13 months, then deleted |
| Feedback and testing-session places | Until 3 months after the beta ends |
| Beta code list (with testers' first names) | Deleted when the beta ends |
| Server logs | Kept by our hosting provider for a limited period, up to 90 days |
| Backups | Our database plan keeps no backups, so deleted information isn't kept in one |
| On your phone | Scripts, reports, progress and saved voice audio stay until you delete them or the app |
Deleting a script in the app removes it from your phone straight away: the script, your corrections, voice choices, reports, progress and saved partner audio. It also deletes our server copy and its run summaries, immediately if you're online, otherwise the next time the app opens with a connection. Only the phone that added a script can delete it this way. Usage records for that script (counts only) are kept for their normal period.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you;
- correct or delete it;
- restrict how we use it, or object to it, including usage records;
- send it to you in a portable format.
You can also withdraw consent at any time, for example for feedback you sent.
To delete a script, delete it in the app (Scripts → ⋯ → Delete). If you no longer have the app, email us with the script's title and roughly when you added it.
To object to usage records, or for anything else, email info@second-voice.com.
Because Second Voice has no accounts, we may need your help to find your information, such as a script's title and the date you added it, or roughly when you sent feedback. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first and we'll try to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
